William Jewell Degree Zoom Meeting and Attendance Protocols

Below you will find information on how to access your classes on Zoom, our guidelines for Zoom etiquette, and what to do if you have to miss a class.

Also Known As / Common Questions

  • "How do I access the classes for my degree?"
  • “What happens if I miss a live class?”
  • “Do I need to attend every master's degree live session?”
  • “How do I make up missed classes?”
  • “Where do I find the session recordings?”

Class Access via Zoom

  • Access the Zoom links in Brightspace. Within 24 hours after each meeting, the recording(s) will be posted in your curriculum for those who were unable to attend or who want to review. More information can be found here.
  • Please check that your application is updated to the most recent version before each meeting to ensure that it functions properly. If your device is running slowly, try restarting it before the meeting begins or setting up closer to your internet router. You can even connect directly if you have an ethernet cord.

Zoom Etiquette

In order for all students to have the best experience during class, please follow the following guidelines.
  • Use One Device: Join the call from one device at a time, so that our breakout rooms run smoothly and equitably.
  • Rename Yourself: Rename yourself with your full name, so that we know who you are. When relevant, be sure to use the naming convention provided so that we know which breakout to place you in for Community Group sessions.
  • Keep Your Video On: When possible, keep your video on to stay engaged and foster community connection.
  • Stay Muted Unless Speaking: Remain muted unless called on to speak so that background noise does not interfere with the session.
  • Use the Chat to Connect to the Learning: Keep conversations in the chat relevant to the content that we are presently exploring.
  • Leave the Call If Absent for an Extended Period: If you need to leave your device for an extended period during a content session, leave the call so that breakout rooms can be created effectively and equitably. You can rejoin the call with the same link when you are ready to participate.

Missing a Session

  • While we highly encourage you to attend all live sessions, we understand that you may have conflicts that require you to miss some class time.
  • Within 24 hours after each meeting, the slide guide and Zoom recording(s) will be linked in your curriculum.
  • To make up the hours:
    • Watch the recording of the missed session.
    • Complete any breakout practice-teaching with family and/or friends or in a journal.

Reporting an Absence

  • Give your community group a heads up and check in with them via the group space.
  • There is no need to report your absence to your Faculty Advisor or Course Instructor if you are missing one class.

Extended Absences

  • If you are unable to attend more than one session, or will not be able to log into the curriculum for more than a few days, please contact your faculty advisor to notify them of your situation.
